This was supposed to be a simple post about the delights of the Dunkin' Donuts Key Lime Pie donut. I was simply going to inform you that such a donut exists and that they are yummy, maybe try one and to have a nice weekend. When I went to find a picture of said donut, the Krispy Kreme site was the first Google hit as they have one too. I didn't know that. It would seem that in the donut world few things are sacred but that an idea as unique as a Key Lime Pie flavored donut could be trademarked or patented or something. Not so. What a letdown.
So, which came first? Have you had either? If so, which is better?
I have had neither but I will try both and report back. I am noticing this trend a lot though with the pie flavors. Last weekend in Cleveland, I had both Key Lime Pie ice cream and Banana Cream Pie ice cream. The Banana Cream was so great. This adaptation and fusion of desserts though, I'm conflicted about a little bit. I sort of like my pies to be pies and my ice cream to be ice cream. What do you think?

Try 'em both and let me know. I love pie too with Key Lime at the very top, so this donut could've really let me down but it didn't disappoint. The 'Key Lime' filling is teriffic.
That said, even from someone who has a donut or two every week, this is a special occasion thing. If I had donuts more often or even daily, I couldn't eat one of these every day, they're too rich.

I stay away from KK, too sweet for me. I do love DD though. Never heard of the key lime though.
